The 2008-2009 legislative session had a bill (HB2093/SB5652) proposing a reduction in tolls for motorcycles to 50% of the cost for two-axel vehicles. Because of budget concerns the bill did not get any traction.
As the trend seems to be more toll roads throughout the State (ie: 520 tolls have been approved), we are reworking the bill and hope to have it heard in the 2009-2010 legislative session.
We definitely need help to get sponsorship (and co-sponsorship) so that the bill can get acted upon.
Keep an eye on the www.abate-wa.org web site periodically for more information and direction on how we can get this accomplished.
It is VERY important that the motorcycle community become active in pushing a unified agenda.
As ABATE's Legislative Affairs Officer, there is only so much that can be done without the support of the entire motorcycle community coming together and voicing their concerns to their legislators. I can't stress enough how we all have to be on the same page.
Next year, Black Thursday will be on January 15th. From now until then, get to know your district representatives and senators on a first name basis, so that they already have our message and are prepared to push the bills through to a vote.
