Only a half dozen Tacoma Chapter members plus 4 or 5 guests made Fossil this year, which was still enough to get the largest out-of-state MRO trophy. Lyle and myself went via Snoqualmie Pass and only hit around 5 miles of light rain on the way there. The others, who went down I-5, got soaked. We made camp in the usual place, up the hill by the "Tacoma Tree", which has a commanding view of the entire rally site. This was the 11th consecutive year that we camped at "The Tree".
Most of the weekend involved sitting around under the cover of Lyle and Debby's gazebo, watching the wood burn in their Coleman fireplace, and watching the rain fall. We didn't even go into town to play bike games, nor did we do the 135 mile poker run, which 50 other people did do. We drank beverages of choice, listened to music, and watched the rain fall. Sure, we walked around between squalls and socialized at other camps, especially our friends' from Lincoln County, Oregon (aka Tacoma Chapter South), but mostly we watched and listened to the rain fall. Some might say it really sucked, but I really enjoyed it. Friends, music, beverages, campfire, shelter and rain. Wasn't nothin' else happnin' I'da rather done that weekend, so I'm calling it a total success.
