Starting a kitchen renovation in St. Albert with no idea where to begin

Bought a house in St. Albert built in the 90s and the kitchen looks exactly like it did when it was built. Cabinets are solid but everything else needs to go. Trying to figure out whether to gut the whole thing or work around the existing layout before calling anyone out. Anyone tackled a full kitchen reno in this area and can share realistic costs and what to watch out for?

Solid cabinets are actually a huge starting advantage honestly. Did a similar reno in a 90s St. Albert home two years ago and keeping the cabinet boxes while replacing doors, hardware, and countertops saved us roughly $8k compared to a full gut. Where costs escalate fast is when you open walls and find outdated plumbing or electrical that needs upgrading to current code, budget a contingency for that specifically. Countertops, backsplash, flooring, and appliances together can run $25–45k depending on material choices even with cabinets staying. The layout question depends on whether your workflow actually bothers you day to day. If it functions fine, work around it. Flooring Company in Edmonton, AB  helped us sort out the flooring portion specifically since kitchen flooring ties the whole reno together visually. Get at least three quotes and ask each contractor to itemize labor separately from materials.
