Behind the Cooker
Last weekend I cooked for a big family gathering and finally admitted that our old wall behind the cooker needs an upgrade. Grease gets everywhere, so I’m looking at glass splashbacks as a practical option. There are so many colours and finishes that I’m a bit lost. Has anyone ordered one they’ve been genuinely happy with and could point me in the right direction?

Ha, I feel this - nothing exposes a grubby wall faster than cooking for a full house. We had the same wake-up call after Christmas dinner last year, grease had basically tattooed itself onto the wallpaper behind our cooker. On colours: don't overthink it too much. We nearly picked a bold red because it looked great on screen, then realised it'd clash with literally everything else and probably date fast. Ended up going with a soft off-white matching our worktop instead, and it's aged way better, still looks fresh a year on. For ordering, get actual samples sent rather than trusting screen colours, lighting changes everything. We compared a few suppliers and kitchen glass splashbacks sent proper physical swatches before we committed, which saved us from a colour regret. Installation was quick too, no mess, no drying time like tiling. Now grease just wipes straight off after cooking, even after hosting a full roast dinner. Genuinely wish we'd done it years earlier.
